Students from MIU IV's Class at Hartman Middle School Plant Tree in Memory of Fellow Students November. 2012: Students in William Skalski's class at Hartman in Ellwood City planted a tree in memory of Tessa Beachem and Cory Haswell, two former classmates. The tree was planted in Ewing Park. Skalski said that they were learning about trees in science class which gave them the idea to do a memorial tree planting. Also, Skalski said, it was because they missed the girls. Marshall Tree Experts donated the dogwood tree while workers from Ellwood City's Public Works Department planted it along with the student helpers. Parents of the girls were very touched. Nan Beachem was missing her daughters smile as she watched the tree planting ceremony. Tessa passed away 7 years ago. Students participating in the planting were: Connor Flinn, Sami Gatto, Xena Gruver, Jenna Jordan and Nate Sneed. Teacher Bill Skalski and the teaching aides, Jodi Cooper, Marilyn Hilyard, Mike Nocera, Kathy Singer and Michelle Soltis also joined in the gathering. Student Cassidy McCune was absent. |
