Clearinghouse for PIAA Officials

Act 34, Act 151 & Act 114
Clearinghouse for PIAA Officials

What Is the Purpose of the Clearinghouse?

As established in the PIAA bylaws, all PIAA officials who have registered for the first time after April 1, 2007 or whose registrations have lapsed for more than one year must obtain and submit valid within the year Pennsylvania State Police (Act 34), Pennsylvania Child Abuse History (Act 151), and FBI federal criminal record (Act 114) clearances to each school with whom the official contracts. To streamline the process for both officials and school districts, Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV is acting as the clearinghouse for PIAA officials who are required to submit their background clearances to the schools prior to officiating athletic events.

How Will the Clearinghouse Benefit Officials & Schools?

PIAA officials serving District 7, 9, or 10 schools in Butler, Lawrence, or Mercer County can bring their clearance forms to MIU IV.  We will scan and enter the clearances and the official's contact information into our password-secured database. District 7, 9, and 10 schools in Butler, Lawrence, and Mercer Counties can log into this database to obtain the necessary copies of these documents. This process provides the PIAA official the opportunity to present individual clearances only one time for all events during the school year.

What Do PIAA Officials Need to Do to Participate?
Original, current within the year clearances should be brought to MIU IV for scanning; photocopies of the clearances are not able to be processed. Once the clearances are scanned, the forms will be handed back to the official-the original remains with the PIAA official. Officials may come to MIU IV on any of the designated dates/times below.

If these times do not fit into your fall schedule, please feel free to contact Brenda Marino, Director of Human Resources to confirm another time that the clearances can be scanned, Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-Noon and 1-4 p.m.
